Kathleen Edwards - Asking For Flowers

Canadian singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards have made several nice albums before, but for the first time she has made an album which feels heavier and well thought out in it's entirety.

She's got Neil Young in one hand, Steve Earle in the other, and the combination of vulnerability and strength makes her songs both thoughtful and lasting.

The voice is the kind that hits you, but never adapts. Nobody puts baby in a corner.

Edwards is at her best when she lets it rip, both in tempo and attack, and in the furious 'The Cheapest Key" everything's 100 percent correct. The Heartbreakers organ in the title track is in some way significant for her point of view, as well as the bitter tone in "I Make The Dough, You Get The Glory".

Best Track: The Cheapest Key

Rating: 4 out of 5
