Edwards is sharper when kathleen edwards made her debut two years ago with the excellent "failer" there were apparent influences of the artist suzanne vega. on her follow-up "back to me" she is more sharp around the edges, has left the vega-sound behind her and instead moved in on the nervy world of lucinda williams. this is in all ways a much more powerful record, both when it comes to the heavier rock songs as well as the low-key, emotional ballads. the music has become more rough and harder at the same time as the tempo is more intensive and the legacy after american rock in the form of tom petty and neil young has become more clear. i am very fond of the guitar playing which is both beautifully melodious and powerfully disturbing. with "back to me" kathleen edwards clearly shows that she is a musical force to reckon with and an artist which it will be very interesting to follow in the future. dan marklund pitea-tidningen.se translated by suzanna |
