Kathleen Edwards: Back To Me the canadian singer-songwriter paints a bleak picture of life in her latest album, the much-anticipated followup to her well-received debut, "failer." edwards' brooding country-rock is first-rate. her songwriting tackles gritty subject matter with a steely self-confidence. the opening song, "in state," explores a lover's exasperation with the desperado in her midst: "i know where the cops hang out/ i know where you'll be found/ i know what you're all about/ i know when you're going down." despite the power of "back to me," edwards lacks a distinctive voice that would make these songs truly memorable. gene stout seattlepi.nwsource.com |
