Ottawa Sun: Building 55 if you've seen her live shows in and around ottawa, you already know intensity and kathleen edwards go hand in hand. on her seven-song debut ep, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter packs enough whallop with just her percussive acoustic guitar, some seductive violin (especially on the all-too-short violin for mom) and fine backing help, including loyal lead guitar-picker jim bryson. but it's edwards' rapsy voice and emotionally charged lyrics on titled untitled, big star and nagasaki that hook on to the listener and refuse to let go. and guys, be forewarned: wordgamething and 5 years are two of the most relentless, in-your-face breakup songs ever penned. if the truth hurts, sing about it. ian nathanson ottawasun.com |
