2005/04/28 Debaser; Stockholm, Sweden we have to wait way too long for kathleen edwards and her band. but when she finally gets on stage we are treated to a magical ride in americana land, spiced up with canadian melancholy. to start off with one of the most thoughtful and mellow songs from the latest album shows wilfulness. it lays the foundation of a suggestive rise of moods and noise. edwards' beautiful voice, raspy but at the same time as clear as a bell-ringing, which you don't hear a lot of on the latest album "back to me", fill up and color the songs. it is much better live than on record. the songs are lifted up to a completely different dimension, they shine powerful and sensitive with a mix of countryfeeling and rockattitude. at the beginning edwards is a bit sulky and cast down, but gradually she lights up. when she manages to get a cap with a canadian flag on her head she even seems happy. the perhaps 300 people audience is the most mixed i've seen in country. after the show we step out into the stockholm night, happy and smiling. björn svensk corren.se translated by suzanna |
