"For so long it was the Taliban, which meant people were incredibly impoverished and being punished for being a female, or a child who would not be schooled. When I saw that first-hand, I realized that this is a situation and a country that really needs international support to help turn itself around. Wine festival - 26 July 2009 Kathleen will be playing at Shores of Erie International Wine Festival in Amherstburg, ON in September. Tour dates - 11 May 2009 Some more festival dates have been added for the summer, along with a date in September when Kathleen's opening for Great Big Sea. Massey Hall - 1 April 2009 Kathleen will once again open for City & Colour, this time at the prestigious Massey Hall. Tickets go on sale here on April 3rd, there's also a presale there that starts on April 2nd. Kathleen has played at Massey Hall one time before, in 2006 when she opened for Ron Sexsmith. Edmonton Folk Music Festival - 15 March 2009 Kathleen has added a new date to her string of festival date's this summer. This time around it's the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, which takes place in August. Other artists include Rodney Crowell, Loudon Wainwright, Fred Eaglesmith and more. This will be Kathleen's second time at the festival, she played there in 2003 as well. Mississauga Waterfront Festival - 7 March 2009 Kathleen will be playing at the Mississauga Waterfront Festival on 19 June, along with Sam Roberts, Justin Nozuka, 54-40 and more. The Mississauga Waterfront Festival is a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating the importance of families in the community. Since it's premiere in 1997 the festival’s "Sponsor a Child" program has subsidized approximately 30,000 children and individuals, who have attended as their guests. You can buy tickets for the festival here. JUNO Awards - 6 March 2009 Kathleen will be performing at the JUNO Awards on 29 March, which will be broadcast live on CTV. Indie Music Awards Nomination - 1 March 2009 Kathleen has been nominated for two Independent Music Awards, in the categories Best Solo Artist and Best Folk Artist. She is up against bandmate John Dinsmore in the folk category, let's hope one of them wins! The winners will be announced on March 14. Juno Cup - 23 February 2009 Kathleen and bass player John Dinsmore will (hopefully) make us proud with their skating abilities, when they participate in the Juno Cup this year! It seems that Kathleen and Sarah McLachlan are the only women to grace the Cup with their presence, because - of course - only the elite gets to participate. JUNO Awards - 3 February 2009 Kathleen has been nominated for a Juno Award this year: Adult Alternative Album of the Year. Congratulations! She was also nominated in that category in 2006, as well as Songwriter of the Year. On 29 March we'll see if she wins, or if her bass player John Dinsmore wins the Roots category.
